Re: SPI slave communication with another microcontroller

Effectively, you don't. That call will not return until a transmission is done by the master. (Other tasks will run while the SPI interface is doing this.)

Re: Pullup/down not avail on some pins? are 'straps' permanent?

What hardware are you using? Are you 100% sure there's no external, lower-value, pull-up/down messing with your readings?

Re: esp32 buglist - design or manufacturer mistake?

For the digital bits at least, they were design errors. Essentially, they snuck into our design when we created it, and our testcases weren't exhaustive enough to uncover them: they mostly are synthetic tests (made to only test one thing) because obviously we didn't have any big integrated apps that...

Re: EventGroupWait

Erm, a task and a function are entirely different concepts. If you are asking about the main function of your task calling another function and that function being able to call EventGroupWait: yeah, sure, that should work just fine.

Re: Compile environment error

First of all: please don't run user-stuff like esp-idf as root; it's bad Unix practice.

Secondly: there seems to be something wrong with the 'as' binary in your xtensa toolchain. Maybe it got corrupted somehow? Can you try re-downloading and re-installing your toolchain?

Re: IDF Monitor output is garbled

The Sparkfun Thing has a 26MHz crystal, while esp-idf is by default configured for an 40MHz crystal. In 'make menuconfig', if memory serves under components -> esp32 specific, you can change the crystal frequency.

Re: how to use my ".a" library (aka let ESP-IDF generate a ".h" file)

Okay, you can go two ways: either you use non-amalgamated mode, meaning you do not have an open62541.h but have to include the files you need from open62541/include/ manually, or you can use amalgamated mode and add the build directory to the include path. I assume you want to do the latter; most op...
