I've been noticing there is a lot of support developing around zephyr. Lots of developments from all kinds projects/companies/communities. Might be the place to be.

We just got a pretty big batch of ESP32s, so I expect the WROOM32 to be in store pretty quickly.

I'm also working on an addition to esp-idf where you can basically say 'Give me a pointer to flash address 0x123456, I need to access a region 0x12345 bytes long' and you will automagically get a pointer pointing to that data, wherever in flash it may reside.
