Unfortunately this does not work. Variables made in the bootloader that are cross-referenced in the app code, seem to be reset.

Resorting to custom linker...

It is possible to release some of the RAM used by the Bluetooth stack if running with BLE only. In IDF v2.1, this is done by setting "Release DRAM from Classic BT controller" under Component Config -> Bluetooth -> Bluedroid Bluetooth Stack. I would like to track the number of crashes I see on my device and when it hits 100, fall back to factory mode, and do OTA. If vMicro supports gdb debugging, any of the esp32 JTAG hardwares will work. I would recommend buying a wrover kit, since it has the offical JTAG hardware.

solved. It was an issue with the chip-enable pin voltage falling down due to faulty functionality of a voltage supervisor
