ESP32-S2-DEVKITC-1R does have PSRAM?

Postby alkorismus » Thu Jan 13, 2022 7:10 am

Hi,
just want to ask if the DevKit:
ESP32-S2-DEVKITC-1R includes PSRAM?

Digikey product ID:
1965-ESP32-S2-DEVKITC-1R-ND

https://www.digikey.com/en/products/det ... HIkgC6AvkA

Espressif documentation and product select pages shows that the "ESP32-S2-DEVKITC-1" INCLUDES 2MB PSRAM, but I was unable to check of the "ESP32-S2-DEVKITC-1R" (the diff here is just the "1R" at the end of the string) also does include PSRAM...

Thank all,
Valter

Hi,
found a Mouser webpage saying that "YES, THIS KIT IS NEW AND THIS KIT HAVE 2MB PSRAM"...

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Es ... mMOw%3D%3D

unfortunately, the URL to the PDF Documentation that it shows in the page goes to the ESP32-S3-DEVKITC-1 (without the "R")...

Looks like the problem to find information is related to this kit being a NEW PRODUCT (version)... perhaps this fact explain it all..

TinyUSB
I am interested in hacking around TinyUSB, so, S2 and S3 are the things to go...
Right now, S3 DevKits with PSRAM are "out of stock", so I saw the S2 available and want to give it a try...
I have a very small experience in the past with 8Bits Microchip MCU with USB function, and found it very interesting to play it...
Now, considering the 32Bit ESP, WiFi and many more factors, TinyUSB should be a HOT thing to experience with...

A very "helloworld" with TinyUSB using a RaspberryPI Pico tells me that the DUAL CORE feature should make a nice "companion" to explore USB stuff...
Since S2 is single core, I am looking at least at PSRAM as an "extra" power to help to explore with TinyUSB...
This is the reason I am asking if this "1R" DevKit also include PSRAM...
Since I am not developing any commercial product around TinyUSB, the S2 should be interesting enough...

I will try to search a little bit more about the "1R" kit and probably will give it a try... looks like it does HAVE psram...

Thanks all,
Valter

Hi.

According to the following Mouser webpages,
the Dual Core S3 DevKit WITH PSRAM are expected to 2022/JAN/26:

2MB PSRAM
https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Esp ... rRu2iYk%3D

8MB PSRAM
https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Esp ... 52BJ0vw%3D

So, about 10 days from now... for the purpose I want, is worth waiting...
Dual Core, plus 8MB PSRAM should give TinyUSB a lot of room for experimentations...

Also, I do not have any S3 yet, so, looking at the ESP32-C3 as the ESP8266 "v2", and the ESP32-S3 as the ESP32 "v2", then the S3 does seems a good option for me now...

Thanks all,
Valter
