Using a ct-ng generated toolchain

I'm trying to setup a development environment on an ARM64 machine. Unfortunately there are no precompiled binaries for ARM64, so running install.sh fails.
I've resorted to compiling my own xtensa toolchain with crosstool-NG as specified here https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp ... ratch.html, and it appears to have worked.
From here on, how do I integrate my custom toolchain with ESP-IDF? I cannot use export.sh unless I have previously installed all the tools, but as stated before install.sh fails when checking which binaries to download.

Is this even possible, or should I just wait for ARM64 support (probably coming with the new Macbooks)?
